From Punchcards To Tbytes, IBM Counts Heads

"On Wednesday, IBM announced details of the technology that will manage the data collected by the Census Bureau of the
United States Department of Commerce. IBM is building the technology that will allow users to analyze and view census
data via the American FactFinder website.

With the announcement, Big Blue closes a circle that began more than one hundred years ago when a census bureau
statistician, Herman Hollerith, developed a machine to tabulate data from punch cards. Hollerith eventually left the
bureau to form Tabulating Machine, a forebear to modern IBM. "
