According to the plan, computers will be used to analyze minute movements of the eyes, limbs and muscles of welders, turners and other skilled workers. The recorded data would then be analyzed and digitally and graphically processed so that young trainee workers could learn the techniques of skilled masters of their chosen trade.
This is, in a nutshell, the plot to Kurt Vonnegut's first novel _Player Piano_ -- except that, in the novel, the recorded data is given to robots instead of "young trainee workers." Societal chaos ensues. -- Jamie McCarthy jamie () mccarthy org http://jamie.mccarthy.org/
