Formalizes Registrar and Registry Business Units, Positions
for Continued
                                      Growth

Herndon, Va., August 24, 1999 - Network Solutions, Inc.
(NASDAQ: NSOL) today
announced a new organizational structure which formalizes the
separation of its
registry and registrar functions into two discrete business
units and positions the
           company for continued growth.

In the new organization, Doug Wolford will be general manager
of the Registrar
Business Unit and Value Added Services, and Bruce Chovnick
will be general
manager of the Registry Business Unit. The Registrar Business
Unit includes
           Network Solutions' registration services, value-added
products, and partner programs
worldwide. The Registry Business Unit is responsible for the
Shared Registration
System that is used to register domain names in .com, .net,
and .org by Network
Solutions and competitive registrars around the world. A third
business unit, Internet
Technology Services (ITS), a professional services
organization responsible for the
operations and service delivery of consulting services
worldwide, was previously
headed by Chovnick and will now be directed by Tim Ranney,
senior vice president.
Each of the three business units will have separate profit and
loss accountability and
decision-making authority, and will have its own customer
service, engineering,
           marketing and sales functions.

Network Solutions has created a chief information officer
(CIO) position and named
Rick Walsh in an acting capacity. Rick Walsh has served as
director of operations
since July 1997. The CIO is responsible for scalable and
reliable operational
infrastructure and business information systems across all of
the business units.
Network Solutions also continues to grow its research and
development group
headed by chief technology officer Dave Holtzman. Holtzman's
group is chartered to
investigate leading edge technologies relevant to the future
of the business and to
ensure corporate-wide technical excellence. A corporate
development function will be
staffed soon, with the specific mission of identifying and
incubating new businesses,
supporting mergers, acquisitions and investment activities
across the company.

"The new structure will give us the agility to address new
opportunities as our
business continues to grow," said Jim Rutt, chief executive
officer of Network
Solutions. "We believe that organizing into business units,
each with a separate
focus and accountability, will allow us to make decisions at a
point in our
organization that is closer to our customers, which will
shorten our time to market
with new products and improve the quality of all our
services."

Doug Wolford, previously senior vice president of sales and
marketing, joined
Network Solutions in December 1997 to direct the company's
worldwide marketing,
sales and branding programs for its registrar services. Bruce
Chovnick had served as
senior vice president and general manager of Internet
Technology Services for
Network Solutions since October 1997. Tim Ranney, previously
vice president of
Internet Technology Services, joined Network Solutions in
1998. Ranney was an
integral force behind making the Southeast region one of the
fastest growing regions
in the company in sales growth and total revenue.
