Very interesting article in Friday's WSJ "A Smart Business Model Is Seen in
a 'Stupid Network'" about David S. Isenberg and his internal AT&T essay
(that leaked out):


        "Rise of the Stupid Network: 
        Why the Intelligent Network was once a good idea, 
        but isn't anymore. One telephone company nerd's odd
        perspective on the changing value proposition."

intelligence to the end subscriber units and out of the network is changing
the value proposition of today's telcos and that they seem to be
"responding" like sailing merchants responded to the threat of steam by
inventing faster sailing ships in the mid 1800s....
