It will be in the 1999 Rose Bowl parade running a live chat room from the Los Angeles float, and videocam images taken from the moving float will be posted on the net. Following are portions of a news release describing the event: 1999 Rose Parade Will Feature the First `Cyberfloat' at www.larosefloat.com Leonard Kleinrock and Los Angeles Unified School District Computer Whiz Kids Will be Aboard to Host First Online Chat During the Rose Parade. "Cyberspace never looked -- or smelled -- so good." That's what New Year's revelers will be saying in Pasadena on Jan. 1, after seeing a Rose Parade float called "Website," sponsored by the City of Los Angeles and the New Los Angeles Marketing Partnership (NewLAMP). "Website" celebrates the Internet and its ties to Los Angeles through the work of Dr. Leonard Kleinrock, the UCLA professor who is often called "the Inventor of the Internet." And Dr. Kleinrock will be an active participant on Jan. 1, as he rides the float and simultaneously hosts the parade's first ever online chat room. To join the chat room, parade viewers at home can log onto www.larosefloat.com. The "Website" float is closely linked with the parade's theme for 1999, "Echoes of the Century," since the Internet has played such a major role in revolutionizing worldwide communications. "Dr. Kleinrock is an excellent example of an `amazing Angeleno' representing the past and present," said Regina Birdsell, executive director of NewLAMP, which sponsors the float.
