Research Program on Communications Policy Center for Technology, Policy, and Industrial Development Massachusetts Institute of Technology CALL FOR PARTICIPATION AND PAPERS **Workshop on Internet Economics** This two-day workshop on Internet economics will be held in Cambridge, MA on March 9-10, 1995 and will bring together technologists, economists, business leaders and policy makers to discuss the Internet as an economic system as this medium for communication, information dissemination, electronic commerce, etc. grows. The goals of this workshop are: 1) develop a framework for understanding the Internet as a self-sustaining economic system through panels and facilitated discussion, 2) reach consensus on recommendations for industry and government action, and 3) identify critical issues for future research on Internet economics. Topics include (but are not limited to): - Information Technologies, their Interoperability and Productivity - Internet Engineering and Economics - Internet Resource Allocation: Congestion and Accounting - Internet Pricing: Interconnection, Settlements, and Resale - Future Directions for Internet Economics - Commerce and Information Security on the Internet Draft papers will be accepted, given the short lead time, before the workshop. Discussions are underway with MIT Press and the Sloan Foundation for a book on Internet Economics including revised versions of the best papers presented at the workshop.
