                                 ANNOUNCEMENT:

                THE INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION
                FOR THE PROMOTION OF COOPERATION
                WITH SCIENTISTS FROM THE INDEPENDENT
STATES OF THE FORMER SOVIET UNION
                IS CALLING FOR JOINT SCIENTIFIC
                RESEARCH AND NETWORKING PROJECTS

The Association has been created in 1993 in order to promote the
cooperation with scientists from the independent states of the former
Soviet Union.
Members of the Association are the European Community, Austria, Belgium,
Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg,
The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom.
The Independent states consist of Armenia, Azerbaidjan, Belarus, Georgia,
Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine
and Uzbekistan.

The Association will support research and networking projects
jointly performed between research teams from the independent states
of the former Soviet Union and member states of the Association.

The Association invites interested scientists and research teams
to submit declarations of intent to joint scientific research
or networking projects.

Declarations of intent should include at least one partner from the
independent states and two partners from two different member states
of the Association. Funding is intended to support scientists and research
groups of the independent states.

Each project should have a project coordinator managing all administrative
and budgetary aspects including the submission of all documents to the
Association. This project coordinator should be a proposer from the member
states of the Association in order to facilitate the management of the project.

Scientific coordination of a project may be assured by any participant
either from the independent staates or the member states of the
Association.

The declarations of intent will be evaluated by the Council of Scientists
of the Association and a pre-selection will be established. Pre-selected
applicants will then be invited to submit a full proposal for detailed
assessment. The final selection of proposals for funding will be
performed by the Association based on the results of the assessments
and the available funds.

Forms for declarations of intent can be obtained from the following address:
