PELED TO LEAVE IBM Abraham Peled, Research vice president, systems and software, is leaving IBM for personal reasons on August 13, after 19 years of service, to return to Israel. He will join Elron Electronic Industries, an Israel-based high-tech holding company. Peled joined IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center in 1974 as a postdoctoral fellow. He progressed through various staff and management positions within and outside Watson, including: researcher at the IBM Israel Scientific Center in 1976; functional manager of computer science, San Jose Research Laboratory, in 1980; and director of technical planning and controls for the Research Division in 1983. He was named to his current position in 1985. James C. McGroddy, IBM vice president, science and technology, and director of research, said, "Over the years, Abe has provided exceptional leadership and vision and has made major contributions to IBM. He leaves a rich legacy and an outstanding record. We will miss him, and wish him the best for the future."
