i would suggest contacting the police and examing the contract with the
consultant/contractor with your legal team. chances are there are some
violations here. then apprise the consultant of their legal standing,
which will possibly be in a pan of hot water between a rock and a hard
place given their actions.

badmouthing the person by name is probably not wise, as it could be taken
to court as defamation of character or something related unless you prove
that this person was, in fact, doing these things.

I agree with this caution.

In addition though it's worth considering that the guy is sending an
unfriendly warning of serious problems.

It sounds to me like some people have just been handed the responsibility
for security. I wouldn't agree to take that new responsibility without
a serious look at the configuration.

good luck. this is one of every company's worst fear, i think.

In several ways. Bad enough that the guy walks with no notice, but a
hostile person that was formerly in a position of great trust is
a pretty obvious danger.

First level of precaution, I'd change *all* passwords not merely the
system passwords.
