Honeypots/nets and threat research

I'm working on a project about using honeypots/nets to learn more about 
hacker tools and tactics as part of my master's degree. I was wondering 
if there are any companies out there who are actively using 
honeypots/nets to research threats, where the research is being fed back 
into product/patch development/testing, etc. If so, could you please
