Haha.  Sometimes the hacks just aren't worth it.  

The only thing that would be interesting is if you could change the reading to lower or raise someone's bill.

How horrendous!  If someone can crack the encyption, figure out the band being
used, and figure out how to trigger the meter dump, they can find out whether
you've been using a lot of electricity!
Smart water meters might suffer similar vulnerabilities, tipping off
peepers when they should sneak to the bathroom window. A few
innovative researchers will probably correlate usage to a flush versus
a shower.
