Unfortunately, you're right:

[snip]

A majority of Americans initially support a controversial National Security Agency program to collect information on
telephone calls made in the United States in an effort to identify and investigate potential terrorist threats,
according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The new survey found that 63 percent of Americans said they found the NSA program to be an acceptable way to
investigate terrorism, including 44 percent who strongly endorsed the effort. Another 35 percent said the program was
unacceptable, which included 24 percent who strongly objected to it.

A slightly larger majority--66 percent--said they would not be bothered if NSA collected records of personal calls they
had made, the poll found.

Having realized this -- it doesn't make it legal, or ethically
sound. :-/

It just shows how apathetic Americans are about their maintaining
their liberties.

Very disturbing.

Can't wait to see what they do about Sprint's Atlantic lines... does
that fall within maritime laws or some such? Do maritime laws cover
wire tapping? :)

But, seriously, while you may be talking to SOME of the choir here,
People don't care. Even if they did, they don't care enough to stop
voting with their history - pulling the lever for the party their
parents did or did not vote for; or better, pulling the lever for a
party that is too often considered a "wasted" vote!

As far as I see it, and the reason I don't care about any of it, is
that the ONLY way to fight this kind of intrusion - and eventually
this kind of government - is the tried and true method of civil
disobedience. Open and blunt disobedience even, then MASS civil
disobedience. Use of force is always possible, on either side, but
should be avoided. Its the way of the world.
