Ideally, you *would* know the algorithm, just like you already know the algorithm that the Linux /dev/random driver users, and the algorithms for the various crypto transforms. I'd *much* rather trust a device that was open and a number of well-known crypto jockeys had taken shots at and failed, than a closed device that nobody knows how it works. Homework assignment: What do "Matt Blaze" and "Clipper" have to do with one another? Why does it matter to this discussion? ;) (Hint: we know what color Matt's hat is. Fortunately for us)
