I know the patriot act has caused a massive increase in data capture in
banking transactions and has created a lot of SARBOX controls, but
otherwise, I havent noticed the increase of black helicopters or agent
Smith's walking around..

About all I heard about the patriot act being used for was abusive intrusions (by my definitions of abusive.) For example, a number of reporters were harrassed regarding communications with Adrian Lamo. Adrian wasn't accused of any terrorism. This was affecting people around me, it hit a little too close to home.
