Even using an Internet cafe (one of the preferred methods of making a long 
distance call over there if you *don't* have Skype) it would be about 1,000 naira-
or about U$7-8.

Nigerians tend to put a lot of passion into their conversation.  When dealing with 
them (legitimately) you have to learn to dial the emotion back about three 
notches in order to understand how important something is.
