In a startling development, "hackthegov" otherwise known as "n3td3v" to the security community has perhaps managed to pull off some political point scoring between Symantec's Securityfocus editorial staff and the United States government. "hackthegov" on an unmoderated information security mailing list known as Full-Disclosure said Symantec's Securityfocus website were biased and wouldn't publish allegations of the United States government were involved in hacking into China. Securityfocus later caved in to "hackthegov" alias of "n3td3v" and ran an anti US government article which claims US broke into China. This move by Securityfocus is off track from the pro US government hackaganda usually seen on the cyber security website. Allegations that US broke into China comes after United States accused China of breaking into The Pentagon. Right now its word for word on both sides into who hacked who first and when, if at all. President Bush in a recent joint news conference with China never brought up the matter of cyber relations. Symantec's Securityfocus said on Full-Disclosure they didn't want to run the allegations that the United States had broke into Chinese networks because there was weak evidence to backup the claims. Earlier comments by George W Bush suggested he had no intelligence on the matters. Yet Pentagon officials clearly state in news reports that their systems were shutdown due to cyber attacks coming from the Chinese. On both sides there is little public evidence to backup claims of cyber attacks. Department of Homeland Security boss Michael Chertoff said the United States would be making no further comments on the allegations that The Pentagon suffered outages due to Chinese hacking. After the claims made by The Pentagon, other nations have come out to say they have been hacked by China as well. However, n3td3v says it seems that these governments are hacking into each other, including the United States hacking into China, the claim made by the Chinese. Some media reports say the United States government are sparking off a cyber arms race. "hackthegov" better known as "n3td3v" is a student from the United Kingdom. If Securityfocus are going to report on an alleged cyber breach by China, its only fair they report on an alleged cyber breach by United States, n3td3v says. http://www.securityfocus.com/brief/588
