As far as I'm concerned. A business ISP should not block any port for any reason unless requested by the business that is leasing that line... This should include DSL and Broadband cable business class links as well. SWB is in the wrong by doing what they did, but I'm sure that they have an EULA somewhere that states that they can make changes at any time without notification. Basically stating that they can do what they want, when they want, however they want, without telling a soul that they've done it. Kinda like a land lord changing the lock on the mailbox and not telling the person that rents the house that the locks have been changed if you ask me... I'd drop them and get another provider if I could...either that or figure out how much it's costing your company, and sue them for lost revenue. Exibar ----- Original Message ----- From: "J.A. Good Morning, I thought the list would be interested in a story which is developing as we speak. Approximately an hour ago, we lost TCP port 25 from/to anywhere. This, on our "Business-Class DSL" line. A call to SWB confirms that: (a) The decision to block *everyone* was made some time ago; (b) SWB chose not to notify anyone of this impending change; (c) There are NO exceptions. Just how this "service" qualifies as a "Business Class DSL" is anyone's guess. (d) While they state that they will offer relay services, to get them requires that you fill out a form and send it in to SWB for processing: a process that could take "several weeks". Even the most rabid "block port-25 everywhere" can't agree that this is the right way to do this. As for the ~$60.00 we pay every month for "Business Class" service - what the hell is that money *buying*??? -- Yours, J.A. Terranson sysadmin () mfn org 0xBD4A95BF Civilization is in a tailspin - everything is backwards, everything is upside down- doctors destroy health, psychiatrists destroy minds, lawyers destroy justice, the major media destroy information, governments destroy freedom and religions destroy spirituality - yet it is claimed to be healthy, just, informed, free and spiritual. We live in a social system whose community, wealth, love and life is derived from alienation, poverty, self-hate and medical murder - yet we tell ourselves that it is biologically and ecologically sustainable. The Bush plan to screen whole US population for mental illness clearly indicates that mental illness starts at the top.
