They must have plan to add VOIP on top of it later on. They can then sell
incoming and outgoing call like Skype

I was just pondering as to how they will serve advertisements, ads on I.M.
isn't the done thing and I can't see it being accepted. Honestly, I think a
targetted ad would be pretty good on I.M., I'm talking about a concert with
a friend and *bam* up pops a link to cheap tickets for that concert. But I
can't see them getting away with that, I suppose it will just be used as a
draw to their Gmail service?

I hadn't thought of the Skype connection - but it *does* make sense when you
think about it. Plus, it's another poke in the eye to Microsoft - "hey,
Microsoft! We have just launched our IM service and already have more users
than you! Neener neener!" (or something along those lines).

Interesting,
http://www.google.com/talk/otherclients.html especially, giving you other
options.
How could they possibly make a profit off this? I guess it's just an
extension to gMail which they will certainly make a profit with.
Perhaps they're trying to beat skype on the VOIP market?

Hey ho - more opportunites for people to happily surrender their privacy!

But it's just another jabber server - one that I will not be using, but
will no doubt attract Joe Sixpack as usual.

Personally I find GAIM and GAIM-encryption to be a happy combination :)
