List: Just for fun I decided to calculate the S/N ratio of FD. I used the data from February 2004 (the last full month available). Here's my methodology (for those who can do better :-): Cut and Paste the archive listings in MS Word (I know, I know, ...) Remove extraneous text (everything except the hyperlinks) Convert remaining text to a one row table. Turn off the Field Codes (un-hyperlink) Sort the table (also useful to see who the blabbermouths are - exercise left to the reader ;-) Remove "blank rows", names, everything except list entries Turn field codes off again (revert to hyperlinks) Re-sort the table (necessary for next step) Manually search for ("Find") the word "advisory" - discarding duplicates and replies (basically looking for unique one-time list entries) Findings ... Total list entries for February: 1545 Total unique one time list entries containing "advisory" (For February, the winner was iDefense with seven): 23 Total minus "advisory" entries: 1522 (1545 - 23) S/N for February: 23/1522 = 0.015111695 Noise for February: 100.-0.015111695 = 99.98488831 Conclusion: well, draw your own conclusions. Oh, and as a favor to me, replies off list pls ;-) G -- Gregory A.
