Okey, from your question, I really think it is not your "boss", but you
yourself that has these view about Linux being unsuported.

Yes, IBM actually spent lost of money on Linux. They have whole teams
dedicated on developing linux. They ported JFS for Linux. They send
linux distrubitions (RedHat, SuSe, Conectiva etc) S/390 mainframes so
they could have their distributions running on Linux. These are only
a few examples.

All this information is easily avaliable. Please, do your homework.
Even if your "boss" doesn't do his, you should.
