I have worked in BIG SHOPS thank you very much and you know what. BIG
SHOPS - don't use Red Hat.

I've worked in a few, they all ran/run RedHat. Occasioanlly some debian user
would try to preach it to us, but then if your only willing to run
<whatever> distro you certainly won't be welcomed on my team, I'm happy to
work in a slackware or debian shop, as long as were all working the same
way.

The reason slackware is a better server class distro then RH is because of
slackware's simplicity.

Mabye if there was a best. Slackwares ok, I'm really looking forward to
fedora.. More contributed stuff.. Power to the people! I'm ahppy to manage
my own packages, rpm is easy as.

I have played with the Red Hat install and have worked on automating it --
ya -- the RH auto install feature is to very restrictive. With slack -- it
is so much easier to write custom install scripts.

Vim /root/anaconda-ks.cfg ... theres your auto install script from your
anaconda install. Google for kickstart.

Try going from RH 6 to RH 9 -- all of a sudden that directory where you
config files were -- ya is not there any more.

I ran upgrades from 6.1 to the 9 beta, they all worked ok. If your trusting
your servers to just work after you just insert a cd I think you better get
an admin that pays attention.

Oh -- did I mention that slackware is the most Unix like distro available.
There is a reason that hotmail is > running on FreeBSD and NOT Red Hat

HPUX and Solaris share a great deal more similarities to RedHat than
Slackware. Do you even run any commercial unix servers? How many other up to
date commercial unicies that are popular run BSD init scripts? I wouldn't
call Hotmail a varied and diverse enterprise with multiple arch's either.

I think you need to change your nappy.. Its all linux. Theres no need to pat
yourself on the back, or patronise those that don't choose the same distro.
RPM is fantastic for package management, you can even install it on
slack/frisbee/solaris :)
