AW: Zone Alarm

My statement was not that HW firewall are useless and that everyone should
switch from HW Firewalls to SW Firewalls. Of course HW Firewalls are a
strong protection for any corporate network. In our Network we also have a
HW Firewall and the Internet Server is protected with a iptables fw.

So we don't use Zone alarm there.

But for home users it is nice protection. No home user would set up a hw
Firewall unless he has for example a DSL Router.

Home users try out shareware and adware stuff. And using a software firewall
a home user can deny for example adware software to download banner from the
internet or upload any private data to the vendor server.

What's worse is not only did I forget to switch to plain text - but out
stupid mail server sticks some marketing junk on the end as well....

Like anyone on this list would go to MIP anyway :-)

I'm not sure why you'd expect derision for that question. I'd be more
likely to give it to you for using HTML email. :-)

Zone Alarm is fine for a home user on the Internet. It's certainly
better than putting an unprotected Windows box out there. I'd
personally prefer a DSL router or a *nix box running a "real" firewall,
but ZA is fine for most people.

Who's the "everyone" who say that ZA is crap?

I'm not sure I can ask this question without derision, but here goes...
Zone Alarm, is it really as crap as everyone makes out.... or is the
usual posturing by ill-informed...?
