I don't run ftp on any box I admin. Only sftp.
Isn't postfix supposed to have been such an attempt as to provide something smaller, and more stable then sendmail? Although not a rewrite of SMTP perse...
Not really. It's designed to be sendmail-compliant and a secure replacement for sendmail.
