Hi....
I have installed Snort and ACID.

I have followed the following book which explains installation and
configuring steps in an easy way.

BRUCE PERENS' OPEN SOURCE SERIES

INTRUSION DETECTION WITH SNORT
Advanced IDS Techniques using Snort, Apache, MySQL, PHP, and ACID
written by Rafeeq Ur Rehman

I recommend that this is the best book for installation and configuring
snort.
