VelociRaptor: Still viable

Raptor, now called Symantec Enterprise Firewall, is certainly viable, 7.0 has just been release with new features. The plan is to add more intrusion detection and virus protection to the firewall and manufacture the software in an appliance. VelociRaptor is Symantec Enterprise Firewall (Raptor) running on Linux and manufactured as an applicance, but it is still a PC like Linux box running Raptor. Symantec has another applicance, true asic design, but it's not Raptor, it's an statefull inspection SOHO firewall. I believe a hibrid is in the works. Symantec seems to like the Raptor product, as do I, and will continue to develop Raptor for a while to come. I hope this clarifies everything for you. -boni bruno

It's been a year since I've had direct admin work w/ it though, so with merger and purchase fever I don't know what it's status is. Does anyone know what the plan is? Will it be around? Is the support any good? Are new features being worked on or is it coasting? Any input would be appreciated. -Mike
