The design problem of sasl (imho) is that there is no "generic" way to
hadle tcp-based protocol: each one gets SASLized its own way, like it
happens with Kerberos.

And i don't see many clients supporting it now :(

Well, I don't know of one per se, but protocols that incorporate SASL..
