Yes, it pretty much does everything Firewall-1 does (and caching) at a fraction of the price. VPN is a separate piece and remote management must be done from NT etc. Granted it is not nearly as mature a product as Firewall-1, But, after using Firewall-1 on NT and seeing all the GP faults, connectivity issues and the vaporware they call CVP I think that Firewall-1 on NT has a long way to go. I wish now I had purchased the Unix version. The person that wants to do other traffic besides http needs to configure Winsock proxy and install the Winsock proxy client. If it is not an MS OS, he/she will need to configure the socks proxy. I know someone trying to use Microsoft proxy 2.0 as a firewall and they can't even get it to allow traffic other than web stuff through. It is probably possible but just not straight forward. The interesting thing is that the person who has tried to configure it is an MCNE. Cheers Michelle

Here are some excerpts: New in security - extensible firewall! Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 has a number of new security features that further enable Microsoft Proxy Server to be used as a firewall. New security features include: * Dynamic Packet Filtering * Reverse Proxy/Virtual Hosting * Server Proxying * Real-time Alerts and Logging * VPN Support Plus, Microsoft Proxy Server is extensible, allowing customers to benefit from products developed to work with and complement its security features. These products include virus scanning, content filtering, reporting, and traditional firewalls. And the best thing about it is it only costs $999. I wish I could get my $20+K back from Check Point!
