We use Varonis for on premise directories.   We are looking into purchasing the Office 365 components now as well.
The product can go beyond just looking for sensitive data with all of the modules they have for the product.

We have been using the on premise now for a couple of years.   Tech support has been fantastic, and we have a very 
active sales engineer.

Would anyone recommend certain tools for discovering sensitive PII (SSN, DoB, etc.) in shared directories?

We are looking into Data Loss Prevention policies in Office 365 but also have on-premise network shares that we need to 
cover.
