Greetings, We are recruiting for two network security positions here at University of California at Irvine, minutes away from the warm west coast beach and beautiful Newport Back Bay, or an hour from the big city life in L.A. and surrounding snowcapped mountains if that's what you prefer. One position is focused more on IDS/IPS and incident response while the other on firewall/vpn management (Cisco ASA) but there is a lot of overlap between the two and they both report into the IT Security team in our Office of Information Technology and serve critical roles for our university. Full descriptions and links below: #1 https://staffing2.hr.uci.edu/CSS_External/CSSPage_Referred.asp?Req=2015-0283 Responsibilities include: acting as system administrator for a variety of network security related systems including intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), connection loggers, network monitoring and event management devices, firewalls, and vulnerability scanners; evaluate and propose potential new solutions; as part of the security incident response team help investigate the cause of and quickly mitigate potential network security breaches, help analyze the severity and risk classification of an incident and respond appropriately, basic forensics of systems involved and suggested remediation; review network security requirements and communicate standards and best practices for network security engineering and architecture, helping implement where appropriate; communication of security alerts, reports, and/or advisories; provide leadership, project planning and documentation. #2 https://staffing2.hr.uci.edu/CSS_External/CSSPage_Referred.asp?Req=2015-0211 Responsibilities include: firewall and VPN administration, implementing firewall rule change requests, auditing existing firewall rule sets, implementing new firewalled subnets and VPNs; working with customers and IT administrators to plan and implement appropriate network segmentation based on risk; monitor and administer various network security systems; and participate in network security incident response activities as needed.
