Colleagues, I'm writing to ask for your support of and participation in the 2014 CISO research survey/study conducted
by the Center for Higher Education Chief Information Officer (CIO) Studies (CHECS). If you would like to participate
please send Wayne Brown an email at wbrown () checs org<mailto:wbrown () checs org>.

Wayne Brown is the founder of the Center for Higher Education Chief Information Officer Studies, a 501(c)3 nonprofit
organization (www.checs.org). CHECS is home to a longitudinal CIO study and Technology Leadership study. In 2014, he
has begun a study of the higher education Chief Information Security Officer. Those on this list that serve in this
capacity at your institution--your input is critical to this study and we would appreciate your participation.

The research which results from this survey will present a detailed description of today’s CISO in higher education.
The aggregate information will provide significant insights that benefit current CISOs, CIOs, and those who hope to
become a CISO in the future. Past CIO and Technology Leadership study results have been widely published in CIO, the
Chronicle of Higher Education, EDUCAUSE Quarterly, EDUCAUSE Review, Public CIO, Gartner, Campus Technology, and by the
League for Innovation.

The survey asks about the CISO, their place in the organization hierarchy, and what skills, education, and background
is required for the CISO. It also asks that you rank a list of expectations of a CISO in importance and rate your
performance. Higher education CIOs are also being surveyed. Your evaluation will be aggregated with survey data from
CIOs. Your response and your personal information will be kept strictly confidential.

All survey participants will receive a free copy of the CISO report and a 50 percent discount on any other CHECS
reports purchased.

Best Regards,

Tammy Clark, CISO - The University of Tampa
CHECS Advisory Board Member
