Description

The Information Security Engineer (ISE) has a dual focus of providing incident response monitoring and handling for 
computing security and abuse events as well as performing security assessments and penetration tests for Carnegie 
Mellon. This involves executing incident response procedures and other Information Security Office (ISO) processes, 
vulnerability and intrusion monitoring and response, responding to related trouble tickets, analyzing compromised 
computer systems, assisting campus IT personnel technically and procedurally with incident handling and E-Discovery 
requests, examining information systems for vulnerabilities in design and implementation, penetration testing of hosts 
as well as client/server and web applications, working with other groups in the division to assist in securing 
infrastructure as needed, providing documentation and announcements for security/abuse issues and current threats and 
working with University Counsel to obtain forensic evidence for legal cases and subpoena compliance. Additionally, the 
ISE participates in projects within the ISO and provides consulting across the division and campus. This position 
shares responsibility for maintaining documentation on all incidents, assessments and job related procedures. This 
position participates in 24x7 on call rotations for intrusion monitoring and infrastructure maintenance which may 
necessitate coming to campus at off-hours.
