Dear Colleagues,

EDUCAUSE 2011 starts next week, October 18-21, in Philadelphia, PA, and on
behalf of the Higher Education Information Security Council (HEISC), I
would like to provide some security-related highlights - there are 60
security and privacy-related sessions <http://tinyurl.com/e11security>:

Kick-start your week in Philly with one of several security-oriented
seminars being offered on Tuesday. That evening, you can mingle with
colleagues during the opening reception in the exhibit hall.

On Wednesday, following the general session with Seth Godin, stop by
EDUCAUSE Central between 10-10:30 am ET to meet EDUCAUSE Cybersecurity
staff, as well as the chairs of the 2012 Enterprise and Security
Conferences (which are being held together for 2012, in Indianapolis).
You¹ll also have a chance to chat with HEISC members and EDUCAUSE
Cybersecurity staff during the CG poster sessions on Wed. (1:30-2:30 pm)
and Thu. (12:30-1:30 pm).

On Wed. afternoon (2:30 pm), join the Department of Education Federal
Student Aid Technology Office¹s CIO and Deputy CIO to learn more about
their initiatives for data and information protection, including the
department¹s plan to require two-factor authentication. And later that
day, hear what¹s new in the InCommon community.

On Thursday, you can learn about practical approaches to risk management,
attend the IAM Working Group community update, discuss securing mobile
devices, and hear about the latest developments in Washington from the
EDUCAUSE Policy team.

Wrap-up the week with a session on ³Assessing the Security Posture of
Third-Party Service Providers².

Not attending EDUCAUSE 2011 in person this year? We hope to see you
online! Almost a dozen security-related sessions
<http://tinyurl.com/e11securityonline> will be streamed live from the
conference along with the general sessions. You¹ll also have the
opportunity to have interactive discussions with experts on current topics
and check out the virtual convention center that will include an online
networking lounge and virtual exhibit hall.

If you have questions about the council, cybersecurity activities at
EDUCAUSE 2011, or NCSAM, please contact
<security-council () educause edu>.

We hope to see you in Philly!
