Hello Colleagues,

The Information Security Office (ISO) at Carnegie Mellon University is sponsoring a five-day course on May 17 - 21, 2010, entitled “Securing Windows”, conducted by Jason Fossen of the SANS Institute.

*COURSE REGISTRATION:*
The course, which is offered by the SANS (SysAdmin, Audit, Network, Security) Institute, is offered at a special rate of $950 per student, discounted from the regular rate of $3,845. The discounted rate applies to higher education staff as well as employees of state and other educational institutions. Course registration is through the SANS web site at http://www.sans.org/onsite/details.php?nid=20869; *registration ends April 28, 2010*.

*COURSE OVERVIEW:*
“Securing Windows” is a comprehensive curriculum for securing Windows networks. This program brings the confusing complexity of Windows security into clear focus by starting with foundational security services, such as Active Directory and Group Policy, and advancing in a logical progression to particular products or features which rely on these foundations, such as Internet Information Services (IIS) and Internet Protocol Security. This course provides best practices for security, hands-on exercises, extensive documentation and screenshots, a CD-ROM of scripts, and an objective account of Windows security.

*WHO SHOULD ATTEND?*
The “Securing Windows” course is particularly well-suited to:

   * Windows network security engineers and architects
   * Windows administrators with security duties
   * Anyone with Windows machines who wants to implement SANS 20
     Critical Security Controls
   * Active Directory designers and administrators
   * Those who must enforce security policies for Windows hosts
   * Those deploying or managing PKI or smart cards
   * IIS administrators and webmasters with web servers at risk
   * Administrators who use the command line or scripting to automate
their duties and must learn PowerShell

*ABOUT THE INSTUCTOR:*
Instructor Jason Fossen is a principal security consultant at Enclave Consulting LLC as well as a published author and frequent public speaker on Microsoft security issues. He is the sole author of the SANS Institute's week-long Securing Windows course, maintains the Windows Day of Security Essentials, and has been involved in a number of other SANS projects since 1998. He graduated from the University of Virginia, received his master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and holds a number of professional certifications. He currently lives in Dallas, Texas.

Thanks,
Wiam
