The University of Cincinnati is looking at re-designing our process for
affiliate account creation. I was wondering if anyone would be willing
to share your business rules for affiliate account creation? Can anyone
request an affiliate account? Who can sponsor an affiliate account?
How often do you have affiliate accounts expire and how often are they
reviewed? What other business rules govern the affiliate process?
Also, though we have some thoughts on this, how do you define a sponsor?

At Oberlin, any student, faculty, or staff member may sponsor a guest
account for up to 3-5 days' duration. These accounts may be used to log
onto the network or with our public lab computers. Printing may be
purchased via a swipe card vending machine in the library.

Accountability flows through the guest account sponsors. Some folks may
sponsor many accounts and create accounts with longer durations; these
include the front desk at the campus hotel, Conference Services,
Admissions, and Alumni. Our definition of "affiliate" is rather loose,
but in every regard temporary. Our view is the sponsor is responsible
for the reasonable use of the guest accounts created, although the AUP
is a click-through on the network login form...
