We are using Cisco ASA 55XX appliance for remote access to the terminal server with authentication and authorization provided by separate Active Directory forest for both VPN clients and remote access to the terminal server. ____________________________________________ Indir Avdagic, CISSP, ACSA, TICSA Network Security Engineer Washington State University indir_avdagic () wsu edu Phone: (509) 335-3279 http://infotech.wsu.edu/security/ From: The EDUCAUSE Security Constituent Group Listserv [mailto:SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU] On Behalf Of James R. It has a NAC type feature that does a confidence check for patching, AV, firewall, etc. We keep records of who has access and logs of when they connect. Most faculty want the access so they can record grades. We do not allow access to our banner system using any other method. Those who need SSL VPN access are limited and must justify why they need access to their desktop remotely to senior management for approval. We use two factor authentication for access through the VPN. Periodically we review who has been accessing the SSL VPN and who has not and will remove users (with approval) who have not used the SSL VPN within a certain period of time. Stanley M. I would be interested in hearing if any other Universities allow this, and if so how you are providing secure access, or if you have any thoughts/comments on the matter.
