We put a Tipping Point appliance in place about a year ago and so far so
good. Wish I could say more but it hasn't given us any problems and it
hasn't done anything spectacular. For it's intended purpose on our campus
it has worked without any problems.

We've been weighing the alternatives as well. There seem to be an endless
number of variables that affect what product and which particular model is
best for you - including the volume and variety of your network traffic and
what particular set of security rules you want to enforce. We've been
depending on third party evaluations: ICSA, NSS and the Tolly Group - to try
to make comparisons.

ICSA certified products from four companies: TippingPoint, ISS, Fortinet and
BroadWeb
NSS descriptions of their testing process have been useful.
Only one Tolly Group report had a show-stopper: ISS Proventia G2000 April
2005

"Only when the Proventia G2000 was tested at 128-byte frames,
did it yield high latency of 56,423 microseconds"

We have been using Tipping Point for about 3 years, and it has been an
extremely robust product with good support staff to assist us when
necessary. Time and again we've found their filters very responsive to new

which I think speaks volumes about its network integration and capabilities.

We here at the University of Tampa are in the final stages of purchasing an
IPS appliance. We have narrowed our search down to Reflex Security and
Tipping Point. We would like to get some feedback from other schools that
are using one of these products. All feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Please feel free to contact via email or phone off line. Thanks in advance
