We purchased a media degausser from MDS to erase the data on the tapes before disposing of them. We verified that once a tape was degaussed, the data we not readable. At 11:42 AM 11/13/2006, you wrote:
Hello We have a number of old backup tapes (200+) that need to be disposed. Of course, the tapes are unencrypted and many contained personally identifiable information. I am wondering how other institutions are handling the disposal of old backup tapes. Do you contract with a company for this type of service or do this in-house? Any information or suggestions would appreciated. -- Elizabeth Shannon Pittsburg State University 620-235-4085 eshannon () pittstate edu
