The current thread on how to reach students with our messages of
security awareness provides a good lead-in to the launch of the 2nd
Annual Computer Security Awareness Video Contest.

As Shirley had said, one of the most effective ways to reach students is
through their peers, and that is especially true when that message is
creative, visual and engaging. This contest seeks videos specifically
developed by college students for college students, who create the kind
of messages that you can use in your security awareness campaigns. So
that this year's contest might draw an even greater number of students
and videos (the first round had 62 entries), we need your help in
spreading the word.

Contest basics:
* Videos must be two minutes or less in length, and focus
attention on computing security problems and how best to handle them.
* Students compete for cash prizes, sponsored by the National
Cyber Security Alliance. One gold, silver and bronze winner will be
selected in each of two categories: training videos and 30-second Public
Service Announcements.
* The contest is currently open for submissions and has a March
15, 2007 deadline. Full details are at
www.educause.edu/SecurityVideoContest2007.

Why it's important:
* This contest can serve as an excellent opportunity to gain
experience, cash and recognition for students while in college. Last
year's winners were acknowledged in online publications such as Network
World, Information Week, and ZDNet Education.
* It is a great learning experience for the filmmakers as well as
the viewers.
* Winning videos may be used for educational purposes at no
charge.

What you can do:
*       Use the promotional kit
(www.educause.edu/PromotionalPacket/11282) to reach students and faculty
with prepared messages (templates plus publicity suggestions are
included).
* Download the contest flier and post in student high traffic
areas (don't forget about your Help Desk and computing labs).
* Link to previous winners' videos to stir up interest
(www.educause.edu/SecurityVideoContest).

Background:
* The EDUCAUSE/Internet2 Computer and Network Security Task Force
(www.educause.edu/security) has partnered with the ResearchChannel
(www.researchchannel.org) on the 2007 Computer Security Awareness Video
Contest. Sponsored by the National Cyber Security Alliance
(www.StaySafeOnline.org).

Thank you in advance for you help.
