[Please excuse the cross-post for anyone on the ICPL list.]

[I especially want to draw to your attention the EDUCAUSE2006 session on
"Good Digital Citizenship" that will include a discussion of some of the
existing technology tools for addressing P2P filesharing.]

I have been receiving a lot of questions this week about the
Congressional Hearing on Tuesday about "The Internet and the College
Campus: How the Entertainment Industry and Higher Education are
Working to Combat Illegal Piracy". Below are some summaries and
resources for anyone who wishes to explore further:

There will be several sessions at the EDUCAUSE Annual Conference
(October 9-12) in Dallas on the related topic of P2P filesharing:

3:55 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. Wednesday
(Note: LionShare was cited by Terry Fisher from Harvard during his
witness testimony at the hearing as an example of a legitimate P2P
application. Chancellor Kirwan from the University System of Maryland
said, "We need to be careful not to throw out the baby with the
bathwater.")

I also suspect that P2P filesharing and other copyright issues will be
a topic of discussion during the Policy and Law Constitutent Group
Meeting on Wednesday, October 11th, 2:45 p.m. - 4:45 p.m. (see
http://www.educause.edu/E06/Program/9155?PRODUCT_CODE=E06/CG32).

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks,
