Colleagues --

A new release of the SEnsitive Number Finder [SENF] is available.

SENF now (as of 1.rocklee.17) allows for user-specified file extension and
folder exclusion. Using the files senf_extensions.conf (for file extensions)
and senf_folders.conf (for folders), users can specify items one-per-line
for SENF to exclude during its scan.

The new SENF 1.rocklee.17 release is available at:

http://webspace.utexas.edu/xythoswfs/webui/_xy-16971136_docstore1-t_b08dYQsB
; thoroughly review the ReadMe before implementing

I would also like to point out to folks not wanting to install Java
on their systems, that the following self-contained instance
of the JRE is an option: http://home.arcor.de/blackwell/javahappiness.html
Just copy JavaRunner and SENF to a USB dongle, follow the JavaRunner
instructions, and perform spot checks as you desire.

UT-Austin IT support staff on have also created documentation to run SENF on
a mounted drive: http://www.ce.utexas.edu/senf/senf.htm.

We appreciate all of the feedback the community has provided
and please continue to keep it coming. We'd also love to hear if this tool
has been useful to you. Send comments/feature requests/bug reports to
abuse () utexas edu.

Thanks for your help,

~cam.

The Information Security Office at the University of Texas at Austin has
developed a tool we hope will be useful to you. The SEnsitive Number
Finder [SENF] can be used to quickly locate SSNs/CC#s on a local or network
volume.

Since this tool is still beta it is a bit rough around the
edges, but we are very interested in your feedback (abuse () utexas edu).
Please feel free to download the SENF tool from:

http://webspace.utexas.edu/xythoswfs/webui/_xy-16803472_docstore1-t_tragWUnL
; thoroughly review the ReadMe before implementing

SENF was designed to find several SSNs/CC#s in a single file,
but remains somewhat flexible in an attempt to suit your needs.

For example, you may find it useful to run this tool (with '-m 50') on
systems used by administrative staff who handle or have handled SSNs on a
daily basis.

This tool may find a new home in the near future, but in the
meantime please refer to the above URL for updates/fixes.
