Alternative to exchange from third party email servers

Secure alternatives to Exchange type features via outlook.
We are looking for an alternative to Exchange that will also provide these
services through Outlook(as exchange does).  There are a few products using
MAPI which allow Exchange type features from third party email servers to be
utilized from Outlook.  Communigate is one.

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations on these type products?
