NEW AND REFOCUSED CONSTITUENT GROUPS
Four new groups have been established this year. Two groups-Enterprise
Electronic Content Management and Research Mission Support--will provide
an
opportunity to exchange ideas with leaders in the field, while the
Instructional Technology and Learning Space Design groups will address
the
rapidly evolving teaching and learning arena. Additionally, Personal
Digital
Assistants is now called Handheld and Mobile Computing, reflecting the
group's broadened focus.

* ENTERPRISE ELECTRONIC CONTENT MANAGEMENT
  http://www.educause.edu/groups/eecm
  Leader: Karin Steinbrenner, Associate Provost and CIO, University of
North
  Carolina at Charlotte
  Karin's goal in establishing this group is to help the EDUCAUSE
community
  assess the scope of issues, identify resources and initiatives, and
develop
  best practices for a campus-wide electronic content management
project.

* RESEARCH MISSION SUPPORT
  http://www.educause.edu/groups/rms
  Leaders: William F. Decker, Interim Vice President for Research, The
  University of Iowa, and David Stack, Deputy CIO, University of
Wisconsin-
  Milwaukee
  As coleaders, Bill and David plan to engage the group on two broad
  categories to support campus research missions. The first is IT
  support for research administration, including pre- and post-award
support,
  interacting with federal grant systems, regulatory compliance, and
  intellectual property management. The second includes activities
  such as centralized vs. decentralized approaches; high-performance
  computing; advanced networking; informatics; and enabling
  multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and interinstitutional work.

* INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY
  http://www.educause.edu/groups/insttech
  Leaders: Danilo M. Baylen, Assistant Professor, Florida Gulf Coast
  University, and Cyprien P.E. Lomas, NLII Fellow 2004/Director,
Learning
  Centre, The University of British Columbia.
  These highly active coleaders look to this forum to discuss key
  instructional technology issues such as learner-centered technology
  selection principles and the use of IT to enhance teaching and
learning.

* LEARNING SPACE DESIGN
  http://www.educause.edu/groups/learningspace
  Leaders: Christopher G. Johnson, Senior Consultant, Learning
Technologies,
  The University of Arizona, and Phillip D. Long, Senior Strategist for
  Academic Computing and Director of Learning Outreach for iCampus, MIT
  This group's coleaders will facilitate discussions on how space use
impacts
  teaching practices, learning activities and effectiveness, student
  interaction, and the sense of campus community. Topics range from how
  physical spaces encourage learning to the principles and processes
behind
  learning space design.

* HANDHELD AND MOBILE COMPUTING (formerly Personal Digital Assistants)
  http://www.educause.edu/groups/hmc
  Leader: Paul Luppino, Manager, University IT Support Services and IT
  Projects, Tufts University
  This refocused group will concentrate on innovative and functional
uses for
  handheld computers in higher education, including creative ideas for
  projects using handheld computers and PDAs in teaching, learning, and
  administration.

NEW CONSTITUENT GROUP LEADERS
A few constituent group leaders have left to pursue careers within and
outside the IT higher education profession. They contributed their time

energy, cultivated community, facilitated meetings, and identified

warmly welcomes the following new leaders.
