The Federal Trade Commission unveiled today a new web wite
(www.OnGuardOnline.gov) that provides practical tips to help consumers
be on guard against Internet fraud, secure their computers, and protect
personal information. The new "stop - think - click" campaign is part
of the kick-off to National Cyber Security Awareness Month in
October. The web site includes 7 tips for safe computing
(http://onguardonline.gov/stopthinkclick.html):

1. Protect your personal information. It's valuable.
2. Know who you're dealing with.
3. Use anti-virus software and a firewall, and update both regularly.
4. Be sure to set up your operating system and Web browser software
properly, and update them regularly.
5. Protect your passwords.
6. Back up important files.
7. Learn who to contact if something goes wrong online.

Topics addressed on this web site include: identity theft, spyware,
phishing, spam scams, online shopping, P2P file-sharing, and VOIP. I
encourage you to check out some of the interactive quizzes
(http://onguardonline.gov/quiz/index.html), videos and tutorials
(http://onguardonline.gov/tutorials/index.html), and the glossary of
terms (http://onguardonline.gov/glossary.html). I also welcome your
feedback on this new web resource and whether or not you plan to
integrate the tools for any of your security awareness programming.
