Provisioning MacOSX

We are looking into provisioning a Mac OSX Open Directory service
with various user details including their usernames/passwords.

The data will come from our central provisioning service.

Documentation implies that encrypted passwords can be populated into
the Open Directory service via DS Import, however the examples given
only use plaintext passwords.

Is anyone importing pre-encrypted passwords in this way, and if so
would they mind sharing some of their knowledge.

I'm not a hands on Mac administrator so the info I have here is what
has been passed onto me.
