you say you just want to be a data network manager.
Do you really think you can be a good one if you don't know how to
protect the assets you are responsible for?

And this is a great point Connie, Thanks!!!
I am not advocating leaving all security tasks to the police.

The same way it is my duty to make sure the closets are locked and
doors to the data center are secure, it is my duty to secure the
information/systems/network to the best of my abilities, or the
institution shall get somebody with better abilities than mine.

I really am of the opinion that if we can get to the point
where everyone knows his or her role in the protection of information,
we won't have much need for security specialists.

I humbly disagree, crime is a reality of life, and where there is
human activity, there will be crime.

Police can't be expected to sit in design meetings and point out
insecure methods and poor policies.
The security officers job should be first and foremost awareness.

Buz, I agree, the traditional police would not, but that is my
point, we need to expand the role of the police and the same way they
help us design safe Parking lots now in the future they would help us
design "safer Info Tech"

As I mention, this might not happen in 2005, but I really believe it
shall happen sometime.
