Hello, Does anyone know of other good tools that function like AirMagnet?
There's a couple of free (the linux ones are open source) wireless sniffers that work fairly well for most purposes: http://www.kismetwireless.net/ (linux / laptop and handheld) http://www.wellenreiter.net/ (linux / laptop and handheld) http://www.stumbler.net/ (windows + pocket pc) Depending on your wifi card and level of linux experience the linux ones can be a hassle to set up. Kismet runs great on both Ipaqs running linux as well as the Sharp Zaurus. Of course, any software solution will lack direction-finding, but you can combine GPS and signal strength into them and analyze the results after doing a sniffing run and make best guesses as to transmitter locations. -- Jordan Wiens, CISSP UF Network Security Engineer (352)392-2061 ********** Participation and subscription information for this EDUCAUSE Discussion Group discussion list can be found at http://www.educause.edu/cg/.
