Rodney,

The Atlanta InfraGard Chapter was one of the original chapters and is
thriving chapter with 375+ members and an active agenda. In Atlanta,
InfraGard provides a great contact point at the local level between law
enforcement, private sector and education institutions. The Atlanta
InfraGard chapter focuses at the management issues level. Recent speakers
have included Senator Sam Nunn, Bob Liscouski, Assistant Secretary for
Infrastructure Protection, DHS and Mark Taylor, the Lt governor of
Georgia. Other organizations such as ISSA are also active both focus more
at the technical security issues level. We are also working closely with
the USSS and have a Secret Service agent on the Steering Committee.

Atlanta InfraGard also sponsors a Watch and Warn committee that has been
integrated with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency. We offer a manned
7x24 watch desk for reporting infrastructure attacks.

DHS in the future will provide support at a national level but they will
not be able to provide the local level contacts that are gained through the
InfraGard chapters. It is great to have previously met someone in a social
environment when you need to call them later for help on a business problem.

In Atlanta I sit on the Steering Committee and the Board of Directors. Our
past president was from Emory University and we have two other Steering
Committee members from the Georgia Institution of Technology.

I have been wondering if InfraGard
(<http://www.infragard.net/>http://www.infragard.net/) is continuing to
thrive in local areas since the creation of the new Department of Homeland
Security and the reorganization of key federal government departments. I
know that my local chapter in Maryland
(<http://www.mdinfragard.net/>http://www.mdinfragard.net/) continues to
hold regular meetings and provides interesting programs.

I am especially interested to learn if anyone on this list is active in
their local chapter or perhaps serves in a leadership role - such as
president or member of the board. The program committee for the Security
Professionals Conference
(<file://www.educause.edu/conference/security/2004>www.educause.edu/conference/security/2004)
is planning to schedule a session on InfraGard so we are looking for a
quick status report regarding its usefulness for colleges and universities.

Thanks,
