CONFIDENTIAL medical records detailing names, addresses and injuries
of soldiers have been found scattered on a busy Brisbane street.

The sensitive documents were blowing along Leichhardt St at Spring
Hill near the base of an orthopaedic specialist treating the soldiers.

Two Privates, a Corporal, Warrant Officer, Sapper and Sergeant from
units within the army's 7th Brigade - all based at Gallipoli Barracks,
Enoggera - had personal records exposed in the bungle.

The documents relate to requests for the soldiers to have surgery this
month for knee, shoulder and ankle injuries.

Home addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth and fitness for duty are
also detailed.

Young Diggers support group president John Jarrett said

: "That totally should not be out there. Something unusual has happened.

"I know Defence will be really upset when they find this out, as they should be.

"These people have been deployed and maybe will get deployed again.
You don't need their information getting out.

"Medical documents are all confidential anyway whether it's your local
GP or the military."

Mr Jarrett said the injuries could have been sustained overseas or
during training at home.

"They're all units that get deployed," he said. "Most of those
injuries are caused by their backpacks and the weights they have to
carry in them. When they train for combat they have backpacks on and
go full speed."

The woman who found the paperwork said she may have missed more pages.

"They were scattered, there wasn't a neat pile. My theory is someone
put them on the roof of a car and drove off," she said.

"The army is so touchy about information. My son had a mate who went
to Afghanistan and they had to blot out his name and number on
Facebook."

Defence officials collected the documents from The Courier-Mail
yesterday but declined to comment on the blunder.

The orthopaedic surgeon listed as the admitting doctor yesterday said
he did not know how the documents were exposed to the public.
