IL: Computer data breach at EIU investigated

Eastern has mailed letters to 9,000 former, prospective and current undergraduate students regarding the breach of files that contain personal information. The university has created a Web page with information about the breach of the admissions computer server and answers to frequently asked questions. It may be viewed at http://www.eiu.edu/notice. "A machine was compromised by a virus so we don't believe it was a targeted attack against the university data system," said Adam Dodge, assistant director of information security for Eastern Information Technology Services.
