A timeline of Memory Corruption (against Windows/Linux on X86)

Heya(s)

We started a research project a little while back to see if we could
reasonably cover the history of memory corruption advances (both
attacks and mitigations). Some background on the work can be found
here: http://blog.thinkst.com/2010/05/memory-corruption-and-hacker-folklore.html

Like anyone else who attempts such a project, we quickly realized that
we would be missing huge chunks of data ("events" - for purposes of
our discussion), sometimes because the internet has forever lost the
original text file, and sometimes because the event didn't get the
acknowledgment it deserved at the time. (sometimes just because we
missed it).

This is a problem just searching for a wiki-like-thing as a solution.

To this end, we have thrown together http://ilm.thinkst.com/folklore/
which allows you to browse (and add to) an interactive timeline of
events relating to corruption (on X86).

Ill mod the site shortly to ensure that a local copy of all
papers/posts is linked too (so we are less likely to suffer when mail
lists and archives disappear)

I'm still adding events, and in the past month we have had comments
and edits from the likes of Halvar, spender, Nate Lawson and
icesurfer, but we could always do with more (to try to cover more
ground)

Please feel free to add events using the hacky form on the site, or if
you like, you can mail me, or message @haroonmeer on twitter..
